 Rata and the Tree

One day a man walked into the forest and he was looking for a tree because his village was getting destroyed by a fight between the wind and the sea.

He chopped down  tree to make a waka to put his village on it to get to safety, and then he went home because he was going to carve the tree into a waka.

Then he came back tomorrow and the tree was standing up straight.

Then he chopped down the tree again and then he went home to hollow out the tree tomorrow.

Then when he came back the next day the tree was standing up so he chopped down the tree again and pretended to walk off to go home and the he came back to hide behind a bush.

The he saw the birds and the insects pushing the tree back up and fixing it.

Then he went back to the village and yelled at the birds and said they were making fun of him and the birds said that they weren’t showing respect to the tree and saying why he wanted it.

Then he said sorry and the next day when he woke up in the morning he heard some yelling and all the birds were yelling at him to get up because they had brought him a waka.

He saw it flying in the air being carried by the birds and insects.
